About Bahrain E-Invoicing
Bahrain's National Bureau for Revenue (NBR) is completing the design and build of a nationwide B2B electronic invoicing system, including IT architecture, cybersecurity and project management. The 2025/26 Budget signalled the e-invoicing mandate alongside other tax reforms (including a possible VAT rate increase from the current 10%). NBR has organised consultations and workshops with major businesses on launch plans, technical standards and business benefits. While effective dates and full rules have not been published, large taxpayers are expected to be required to comply first, with structured invoice data (likely XML or JSON) submitted to NBR or a central portal. VAT-registered businesses remain currently allowed to issue PDF/electronic invoices without prior NBR approval, but should monitor NBR developments closely.
